On the 23rd of June, our women’s group met online due to the strikes. One of the ‘Simple Acts’ suggestions for Refugee Week 2022 was to send a message to migrants around the world. Tamara, our community engagement worker, has links with Melie – the founder of WingWoman – an organisation in Beirut, Lebanon. Through the production and sale of reusable period products WingWoman provide employment for women, whilst simultaneously reducing period poverty ????????♻️. We recorded our message to them on Zoom and Shatha, one of our wonderful volunteers, expertly translated our messages into Levantine Arabic. It is an expression of solidarity, love and peace.
Even though SLRA is a local, grassroots organisation, we are in solidarity with all migrant-led organisations that believe in a positive, efficient, and fair immigration systems. It is important not to forget that solidarity knows no borders when fighting together for justice and peace. Enjoy our message and feel free to share it with your community.
