Behind the scenes - Meet our local community bringing in donations

An important part of what we do here at the SLRA, is liaising with other charities, businesses, local community groups and wonderful individuals; to adapt to the unexpected circumstances during the COVID 19 lockdown and bridge the gap between what our clients need and what we can give them.

One of the most priceless resources during the current lockdown is the goodwill from our local community who continue to donate food, toiletries, laptops, smart phones and toys.

We maintain strong relationships with both our clients and our donors, keeping the lines of communication open and accessible for urgent calls for specific goods and services as they arise.

One of our regular donors is Kirsty. She collects toys, food and toiletries from her charitable links, and makes frequent trips on foot, to deliver these much needed donations to our offices.

People like Kirsty are integral in keeping our stocks replenished, varied and ready for our clients. It’s also a great morale boost for our staff to see regular smiling faces taking the time and care to deliver what they can and do their bit to make a difference.

In a bid to work in the most sustainable manner as possible, we source as much as we can from donations, to support clients with no other source of income or support with essentials during the lockdown. Our community of donors and clients, together with staff and volunteers enjoy working together in a sustainable way to improve the situations of those who need it.

One of the most needed items at the moment remain laptops, tablets and smartphones for our clients - young and old - to access education and stay in touch with family and friends. If you have a second hand laptop, tablet or smartphone you don't use anymore, please consider donating it, as it can make a real difference in someone's life at the moment.

This text is part of a new series of regular updates and stories we want to share about the amazing people behind our work at SLRA. Thanks to Radhika for text and photographs. We're looking forward to sharing more stories soon.
